For the exhibition "In relation to ..." I have chosen to present a piece realised in Marrickville (during my residency at Factory 49) specially for this event.
"Portrait in yellow of the artist on a stand" shows in a concrete form the transition from the status of artist to that of work of art; marked on the canvas is the imprint of my torso, in the manner of the Turin Shroud.  As this is not an icon this piece could as well be named "Yellow tribute to Yves Klein."
Let the viewer remain free to interpret.  in both cases we are positing an artist's self-portrait.

Pour l'exposition "In relation to ..." j'ai choisi de présenter une pièce réalisée
à Marrickeville (durant ma résidence à Factory 49)spécialement  pour cet évènement. "Portrait jaune de l'artiste en pieds"concrétise le passage du statut d'artiste à celui d'oeuvre d'art ;  sur la toile est marquéel'empreinte de mon torse, à la manièredu "Saint suaire" de Turin".Pour autant ceci n'est pas une icône cette pièce pourrait aussi se nommer"Yellow tribute to Yves Klein".
Le spectateur lui reste libre de son interprétation. Dans les deux cas ; nous somme en relation avec un portrait d'artiste.

Some of the most interesting work in Sydney is happening at Factory 49, a New York style Showroom in the heart of Marrickville. Now in its eighth year, it is attracting a dedicated growing group of followers.

Each of the 55 artists is exhibiting one work each. It is a great opportunity to view a sample of the entire program. As the Showroom is focused on contemporary non-objective work, the viewer is able to see a wide variety of work within this branch of abstraction.

REASON and ROMANCE
6B is the studio of painter and graphic designer Alain Biltereyst. Each year he makes this space available to present the work of artist friends in order to create a platform where Belgian and international artists can meet. In this way Biltereyst brings together innovative novice and established artists from different disciplines. Like many artists he is seeking alternative ways to show art outside the traditional gallery space. The exhibition this summer is a dialogue between contemporary abstract painters from home and abroad with an emphasis on back to the basis of painting: paint!

A changing work based on firm convictions and choices

In Roland Orepük's work there is undoubtedly something we recognize at first glance.
Our eye is used to it and knows it is seeing "a work by Orepük".
The signature "yellow and white" duality which marks the work of this artist, who defines himself as "reductionist" does not mean it is immobile. In fact it is in perpetual motion.

Being relevant, knowing how to surprise people and offer them the opportunity to rediscover a new vision in a special environment at every hanging, every installation.
 Using a variety of surfaces and taking posession of new spaces demonstrate the artist's desire to offer the unexpected in a strictly visual continuity. The eye acts as a transmitter, it only tells us: "Roland Orepük has been through here", but nevertheless it remains a relay, helping us to appropriate a constantly changing work, to move on to something other than what we have met before.

It is strange to find such a balance in this artist's subjects. He offers us novelty, he knows how to surprise us not only through the surfaces he uses but also through the use he makes of them. Out of a cut canvas, a bent frame, an assembly of pure shapes, an unlikely match between a weightless metal girder and a yellow line, Roland Orepük does exist, he is simply himself!
